Animals We Love

"Animals are such agreeable friends—they ask no questions; they pass no criticisms."

// Quote by GEORGE ELIOT

Animals are a big part of our daily lives; and for me (Erica), they were also a big part of my childhood. I always has a dog (or two) at home while growing up, and I participated in equestrian sports, ensuring that most days were spent at the barn as well.

When we first met, we each had our own dog, both of whom came from local rescue groups. I (Erica) had adopted Aida, a sweet English Pointer; and Bryan had adopted Diego, an energetic Vizsla.

Aida is sweet and shy, but loves to chase to birds on the beach. Diego is outgoing, and would often go mountain biking with Bryan, running alongside him for up to 20 miles at a time. Both of our dogs love children, and are very safe and patient.

At the time we are writing this blog entry, Aida is now 15+ and Diego is 12.5 years old. Both are aging quickly; and have “special needs” that have developed later in their lives.

While we know they won’t physically be in our lives forever, they are a big part of our family. We both love dogs, and plan to always have at least one in our home in the future.

In addition to our dogs, we are surrounded by horses, donkeys, and goats on the farm where we live. Lola {Erica’s horse} lives in our “backyard” and greets us every morning with a loud whinny! Lola’s size can intimidate people, but she is very sweet, outgoing and loves to be around people. She will follow you around her pasture and often begs for treats. Horses hold a special place in our family, as my (Erica’s) mother also loves horses and introduced the equestrian lifestyle to both myself and my sister, Bryce.
